Press Release
ELY, CAMBRIDGESHIRE
We are thrilled to share our news that Quay House in Ely will be opening in Spring 2027. Our extensive redevelopment plans will breathe new life into this Grade II listed building, which sits directly adjacent to the River Great Ouse. In a return home for our owner’s family, Quay House will go back to its historical roots as a restaurant for the first time since the early 1990’s.
Our New Vision for Ely's Riverside
We have completely reimagined the ground floor of Quay & FEN to house an upscale bar and dining area, served from our modern, high-specification kitchen. A standout highlight of our Grand Café & Restaurant will be FEN, a dedicated "chef’s table" integrated directly into the main kitchen, to offer an intimate, private dining experience. The Grand Café will offer our guests fantastic value, high-quality dining throughout the day and evening, appealing to a broad audience, allowing much more freedom across the menus. From classic breakfast and late morning brunch, to light lunch and afternoon tea, through to theatre menu and dinner in the evening, we will use the best of local ingredients sourced from the Fens, an area rich in agricultural heritage, served by our passionate team dedicated to making your visit as memorable as possible.
Lee Bye, our Chef Patron, is widely recognized for his celebrated, produce-driven work at Suffolk's highly regarded restaurant, Upstairs at The Mill, located in Tuddenham Mill. Lee will oversee the culinary direction and launch of Quay House, bringing the magic of Tuddenham Mill to Ely’s riverside. “Quay House is a charming Georgian property, that is perfectly suited to bring a fresh, refined energy to the Ely waterfront," said Chef Bye. "We are incredibly excited to pin Ely on the UK culinary map, championing the very best ingredients in the UK, right here in the Fens, forging a closer connection with our guests to where their food comes from, in a destination that locals and visitors alike can enjoy year-round."
The development phase is underway, and we anticipate our Quay & FEN Grand Café & Restaurant to open its doors to the public by Spring 2027. We cannot wait – we hope you can’t either!
